LIR Services: RIPE NCC Resource Onboarding

A step-by-step guide for organisations managing IP resources through Axivora Connect’s LIR programme.

Service Scope

This documentation applies to services purchased from our store https://store.axivora.net/products/lir-service/.
The tutorial is generic, but some details (such as MNT-BY) reference information provided by Axivora.

1. Register RIPE NCC Access Account

Link: https://access.ripe.net/registration

Use this link to register a RIPE NCC Access account so you can manage resources within the RIPE NCC region.
If you already have an account, you can skip this step.

2. Create Role and Maintainer (MNT) Objects (Required)

Role object: represents a role executed by one or more people, such as a team handling network incidents.

Maintainer object: stores maintainer authentication information. Other objects use the mnt-by attribute to specify who is authorised to maintain them.

Complete the following fields:

Field Description Example
mntner Maintainer identifier (letters, numbers, _ and - allowed). AXIVORA-MNT
role Role name (letters, numbers, selected characters allowed). AXIVORA MNT
address Office address of the role. -
e-mail Email address of the role. -

Click SUBMIT to create the Role and Maintainer objects at the same time.

The page will display role with primary key "EXAMPLE-RIPE". Provide this key to your LIR so it can be used as the admin-c, tech-c, and abuse-c for your AS. You can also create a dedicated Role object via https://apps.db.ripe.net/db-web-ui/webupdates/create/RIPE/role for AS contacts.

Note:

  • The new Role object's mnt-by should point to the new Maintainer → this allows the Maintainer to modify the Role.
  • The new Maintainer's admin-c should reference the Role → this lists the Role as the administrator contact.

This mutual reference requires creating the Role and Maintainer together.

3. Set the Abuse Mailbox (Required)

Enter the Role primary key you created above, then click the search button.

In the result view, click Update object in the upper-right corner.

Click + beside any field to add the abuse-mailbox attribute, enter the abuse contact mailbox, and click SUBMIT to save.

Note: RIPE NCC will verify the mailbox, so ensure it is valid and monitored.

4. Create an Organisation (ORG) Object (Required)

The Organisation object is the core record for managing your RIPE resources. All other resources link back to it.

Complete the following fields:

Field Description Guidance / Example
mnt-by Who maintains this object. The Maintainer you created earlier fills automatically. If requesting IP space, add MNT-BY: MOEDOVE-MNT.
organisation Organisation identifier (generated automatically). AUTO-1
org-name Organisation name (legal entity or personal name). -
address Organisation contact address. -
e-mail Organisation contact email. -
abuse-c Abuse contact – must reference a Role with an abuse-mailbox. -
mnt-ref Which Maintainers may reference this Organisation. If requesting an ASN, add MNT-REF: MOEDOVE-MNT.

Click SUBMIT. The page will display organisation "ORG-EXAMPLE-RIPE". Provide this identifier to your LIR so it can be used as the org attribute on AS/IP resources.

5. Submit Documentation

If you are only registering IP resources, you can skip this step and submit the ORG object (with MOEDOVE-MNT in mnt-by).

Submit the following:

  • Company users: company registration certificate.
  • Individual users: passport / national ID / any valid proof of identity (front and back).

Network resource information:

Field Description
Proof of network activity in RIPE NCC region e.g. European VPS invoices
AS activity region Country
as-name AS name (e.g. Axivora-Connect-Ltd)
org Organisation identifier
admin-c / tech-c / abuse-c Role primary key
mnt-by Maintainer identifier

Submit these details through your ticket or by emailing [email protected]. Axivora will verify the data and complete the sponsorship with RIPE NCC.
